Tom Emery, freelance writer and history teacher who has written numerous books on the Civil War and the history of his hometown of Carlinville, Ill., has turned his attention to the love lives of the nation’s presidents.

Emory has written more than a dozen books on well-known and not so well-known events in the Civil War.

He is a three-time recipient of the Illinois State Historical Society Award of Super Achievement and a five-time recipient of the Illinois State Historical Society Certificate of Excellence.

Now Emery has turned his eye for historical detail on the marriages, romances and love lives of the presidents, including White House weddings and the life of a president behind the scenes.

Emery will discuss his research on White House romance at the Scenic Regional Library Thursday, Feb. 8, at 6 p.m.

Barb Schweissguth, Pacific Scenic Library adult programmer, will host the event.

There is no cost for the event, but reservations are required. Those who wish to attend should email bschweissguth@scenicregional.org or call 636-257-2712.
