The Pacific Lions Club will host its 61st annual pancake breakfast Sunday, Feb 24, from 7:30-noon. at the Pacific Lions Den, 319 W. Meramec St.
The Lions Club was formed in 1931 to assist local families during the Great Depression.
In the 1940s and 1950s, the Lions Club was known for its large Easter Egg hunt in Pacific City Park. The event proved to be so popular the tradition continued for the next 60 years.
In the 1960s, when the school started testing the vision of students, the Pacific Lions bought eyeglasses for Robertsville children who needed glasses, starting the program that would be the club’s mainstay to this day.
The club raises funds, year after year, to provide eye exams and glasses for individuals who cannot afford to pay for them.
The Lions also post flags in front of 30 local businesses every Memorial Day, Flag Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Columbus Day and Veterans Day and install the annual Christmas tree atop Blackburn Park.
