Pacific aldermen approved a contract for Midwest Pools to manage the swimming pool this summer.
The cost of the contract will be $43,085, plus $4,200 for chemicals, for a total cost for the season of $47,285.
“The chemicals will be bought locally,” said City Administrator Harold Selby. “This is something that we were not able to do with the Wildwood YMCA managed the pool.”
The Midwest contract also represents a savings over last year, he said.
The city paid the YMCA $55,995 to manage the pool for the season with no refund on the days when the pool was not opened.
Alderman Walter Arnette noted that on several holidays last year the pool was not opened.
“It wasn’t open on Father’s Day or the Fourth of July,” Arnette pointed out.
Chemicals will be bought from Lu’s Pool and Spa, 120 E. Osage, which is beginning its 11th year in Pacific.
“She (Marylu Eyerman of Lu’s Pool) will be very happy,” Selby said. “She bailed us out a couple of times last year when the Y ran out of chemicals. She had the chemicals on hand and the expertise. We’re indebted to her.”
Mayor Herb Adams said because of the condition of the aging pool, the city needs to do something different with it.
