Ben Jones, Union Pacific Railroad (UP) Missouri public affairs director, will award the city of Pacific the company’s Train Town USA designation this Saturday, Sept. 22, at 11 a.m. during the Pacific Partnership’s 10th Annual Railroad Day Festival.

The festival will be held at Pacific Station Plaza, 216 S. First St., from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

A highlight of the festival will be a display of the Missouri Pacific Heritage Locomotive 1982, a diesel locomotive.

Missouri Pacific Railroad served the Pacific area until the Union Pacific purchase. The locomotive will be on display along the railroad siding east of the Route 66 Railfan Visitor Center and Museum, 100 E. St. Louis St., just north of the festival grounds at Pacific Station Plaza.

The festival also will feature food, vendors, games, a Pacific Has Talent show, antique tractors, live music by The Rebounds and other family activities.

The Route 66 Railfan Visitor Center and Museum also will host the annual Fall Railroad Day Festival Model Train Show at the Pacific Eagles Hall, 707 Congress St., from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to coincide with the Railroad Day Festival, located five blocks west of the festival.

Transportation between the model train show and the Railroad Day Festival will run on the hour. The show features a N Scale layout by Gateway N-Trak and over 90 dealer tables of model trains.

Pacific, Mo., which predates Union Pacific Railroad’s existence, was formerly the town of Franklin and renamed after the railroad.
