The tourism commission approved funding applications at its Feb. 3 meeting to promote events.

The Model Train show, sponsored by the Route 66 Pacific Railfan Center, was awarded $1,600 to promote the event which will be held at the Eagles.

In making the request for the funds, Ron Sansone said the show collects information at the door that enables them to report the number of visitors to the show and where they live.

Dennis Oliver made the motion to approve the funds with the provision that newspaper tear sheets for all ads be included with the invoice.

The downtown Businessmen’s Association also was awarded $1,500 to promote its St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Oliver also made a motion again that was passed that newspaper tear sheets be included with the invoice.

The group requested $3,000 for advertising, insurance and beads to put on the parade, but the commission reduced the amount to $1,500.
