The city of Pacific and the Meramec Valley School District will continue to share the cost of two police officers assigned to the district as school resource officers.

In joint actions, the city and district approved a written agreement spelling out the details of the officer assignments at their July meetings.

“This is what we have been doing in the past, but the agreement now gives us a written document,” said Superintendent Randy George.

The agreement covers the cost-share of two school resource officers to be assigned to school buildings during the school year beginning Aug. 15.

The city approved the agreement at its July 16 board of aldermen meeting.

“Under the agreement, the city pays for the cost of one officer and the school district covers the cost of the other one,” George said.

One officer is assigned to Pacific High School and is available for nearby Truman Elementary.

The second officer is assigned to the Riverbend eighth-grade center, Meramec Valley Middle School and is available for Zitzman Elementary.

The school board approved the agreement at its July 17 meeting.
