Architects designing additions and renovations at Pacific High School are ready to produce and print the documents needed to take the project to bid, according to Bruce Dell, project principal.

Hoener and Associates, St. Louis, is the project architect for the estimated $4.5 to $5.7 million project.

The project includes 13,870 square feet of new construction in the cafeteria and food service kitchen and service area.

As an alternate, if bids come in low enough, a 5,290-square-foot new administrative suite, new entry and vestibule also will be built.

The project budget base total for the primary cafeteria and kitchen portion of the project is $4,498,000 to $4,972,000.

Alternate 1, which includes administrative offices, a nurse/sickroom and HVAC at five classrooms, is budgeted at $552,000.

Two additional alternatives would bring the project total to $5,132,000 to $5,672,000.

Superintendent Randy George said it’s his hope that Alternate 1 can be included in the construction.

Dell said he’s optimistic bids will come in low enough to include the administrative suite and other offices.

“The construction field is still somewhat depressed,” he said. “We anticipate a good bid on the project.”

Dell said he tentatively has scheduled having completed drawings and specifications by Dec. 2 and issuing drawings to bidders Dec. 4. Bids would be due Jan. 8 and a contract could be awarded Jan. 15.

If the schedule works as planned, construction would be expected to start Feb. 10 and would be substantially complete by Dec. 1, 2014.

“I think we’re looking at the Christmas break next year for the project to be complete,” Dell said.
