A local business began the push to raise funds to assist with a Christmas program for needy families by holding an outdoor holiday gift and food sale.

For the past eight years, Route 66 Realtors at 1101 W. Osage has held a Christmas bazaar to benefit Adopt-A-Family.

The event was held this past Saturday on the parking lot of the former Huddle House restaurant.

Santa Clause posed for photos with kids, and Between the Rain, a local musical duo, entertained patrons. Visitors enjoyed hot dogs and Philly cheesesteaks while shopping at boutique-style booths offering jewelry, scented candles and kitchen specialties.

An indoor bake sale covered the entire counter of the former restaurant.

“It’s just our way of giving folks a chance to enjoy themselves heading into the Christmas season, but also to help Cleta Null with this community program that helps so many,” said Monica Barrow, Route 66 Realtors president.

“No one person can help all those people alone,” she said.

Adopt-A-Family provides Christmas food, clothing and gifts to more than 600 families, including more than 2,500 children.
