The New Haven Food Pantry will open in its new location at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, 607 Maupin Ave., Saturday, Aug. 20.

Previously located on Front Street, the pantry is moving because of the building owner’s decision to sell the property.

The New Haven Food Pantry serves residents in the New Haven and Berger area.

It is being reorganized by a steering committee of volunteers.

Operating hours will remain the same for the next several months.

The food pantry is open on the third Saturday of each month from 9 to 11 a.m. and is staffed by volunteers from area churches and other civic organizations.

Those needing assistance are asked to provide a photo identification card as proof of residence.

The steering committee is still exploring other locations in the community for the future housing and expansion of the food pantry.

A Facebook page is in the works, along with other promotional materials to let area residents know about the pantry and its services.

In the near future, the steering committee plans to create a board of directors and make other improvements to its organizational structure.

The next steering committee meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m.

Meetings are open to the public and volunteers are encouraged to become involved.

Donations can be dropped off at the church Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Those who would like to volunteer may call the church office, 573-237-2182.
