Filing for the Washington School Board election this spring will open next Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 8 a.m.
Two seats will be up for grabs. The terms of Dan Contarini and Trish Mitchell, both of Washington, will expire this spring. Neither has said if they plan to run again.
Filing will be open through 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019.
Candidates may file at the district’s administration office at 220 Locust St. in Washington.
Regular filing hours following the opening day will be 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday,
The district will be closed for winter recess from the close of business Friday, Dec. 21, through Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019. Offices will reopen at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019.
Except for the first and last day of filing, filing will not occur on days that the district is closed due to inclement weather.
Candidates must be 24 years of age, a U.S. citizen and resident taxpayer of the district. Candidates must have resided in Missouri for one year preceding their election.
Additionally, candidates may not be delinquent in the payment of any state income taxes, personal property taxes, municipal taxes or real property taxes on their stated residence.
Candidates cannot be a registered sex offender; found guilty or pled guilty to a felony under Missouri law; or have been convicted of or pled guilty to a felony under federal laws.
Candidates also must have filed all required campaign disclosure reports with the Missouri Ethics Commission, when applicable, for all previous elections in which they were candidates.
School board members serve three-year overlapping terms with two or three members elected each year. An annual election is held every April.
