Washington High School is making plans to host the Jordan Scheer Memorial Children’s Relay for Life this spring.

The relay will take place Friday, April 27, from 4 to 7:30 p.m., at Scanlan Stadium on the WHS campus.

The event is coordinated by the WHS Student Council and leadership class. Proceeds are donated to the Franklin County Relay for Life and benefit the American Cancer Society and cancer awareness.

The theme this year is “Carnival for a Cure.”

This year’s event chairs are seniors Lexi Hendricks, Tess Marquart, Jonathan Amlong and Jessica Frick and juniors Kamryn Mitchell and Gracie Boeckman.

The event chairs recently have been visiting elementary schools to promote the event.

The relay is named in honor of Jordan Scheer, a WHS graduate who lost his battle to cancer shortly after his graduation in 2005.

Third through sixth grade children from area schools will participate in the event. All students must preregister.

Relay check-in will be held at 3:30 p.m. on the high school track the day of the event. The opening ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. Activities will run until approximately 7:15 p.m.

Students participating will be bused from their elementary school. High school students will be on hand to meet the students when they get off the bus to deliver and take them to their designated school area.

Students can bring some money as there will be booths and food available to purchase.

The pick up time is 7:20 p.m. by the gate at the entrance to the stadium. In the event of rain, students will be inside and can be picked up in front of the gymnasium.
