Washington School District officials will welcome back all teachers and staff during opening ceremonies Monday morning in the high school theater.
The first day for students in all grades will be Wednesday. Students will follow a full schedule Wednesday through Friday.
“I love new beginnings and that’s what the first day of school represents,” said Superintendent Dr. Lori VanLeer. “I’m looking forward to working with staff, students, parents and the school community to ensure a great school year.”
VanLeer said opening ceremonies will begin at 8 a.m. Monday with the entire staff in attendance. That program will be followed with safety discussions and protocol review meetings facilitated by principals.
Faculty meetings will take place Tuesday at each school. Teachers also will work in their classrooms.
Many teachers have already been back in their classroom preparing for the new school year.
On Friday, teachers reported to their cohorts — their chosen professional development areas of focus.
New teacher orientation was held July 30 through Aug. 1 at the Technology and Learning Center.
Open houses are planned for the next two weeks at district schools. A complete schedule can be found on the district website, which has been revamped.
The Help Desk at the WHS library will be open for students to get their schedules and Chromebooks Monday, Aug. 13, from noon to 4 p.m., and Tuesday, Aug. 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Washington Middle School Seventh Grade WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) orientation will take place Tuesday, Aug. 14, from 8-11:45 a.m.
School officials said orientation day makes the transition from elementary school to middle school a positive experience.
Eighth-grade WEB leaders will serve as mentors to help the seventh-grade students feel comfortable on the first day and throughout the school year.
Washington Middle School open house also will be held Tuesday from 5:30-7 p.m. A seventh-grade parent meeting takes place at 6 p.m. in the gymnasium.
