Washington Police Officer Greg Garrett is the new school resource officer at Washington High School.
Garrett will begin his duties at WHS at the start of the 2018-19 school year.
He replaces Doug Tollison, who will return to road duty with the Washington Police Department after spending seven years as a resource officer with the district.
Before he returns to road duty on a permanent basis, Tollison will fill in at Washington Middle School in the fall until current WMS resource officer Mindy Schmelz returns from a knee injury.
There also will be an elementary school resource officer beginning in the 2018-19 school year, who has yet to be named.
“I want to thank Officer Tollison for his seven years of excellent service as SRO,” said WHS Principal Dr. Kelle McCallum. “We are excited to have Officer Garrett on board as our new SRO. We feel like he will be a great fit for our building and a positive role model for our students.”
Garrett has been with the Washington Police Department for 17 years. He is a 1998 graduate of Washington High School.
Greg and his wife, Krista (Luckey), reside in Washington. They have one daughter, Madison, who is 1 1/2.
