The East Central College Board of Trustees approved the purchase of three mechanical trainers during its meeting Monday, Oct. 1.
Vice President of External Affairs Joel Doepker said the trainers will cost $57,831, with 75 percent of the cost being reimbursed through a state vocational enhancement grant.
The current units have worn out, Doepker said.
“They’re approximately 20 years old so they’ve reached their life cycle and that’s pretty typical for mechanical trainers using the same manufacturer as the sole source provider,” he said.
The equipment is used by the industrial engineering technology (IET) program.
The trainers teach students in the IET program about shaft alignment, gears setup and installation removal as they work with the industrial equipment.
