Multiple assault charges were filed against a man after an incident at a Washington apartment.
Kevin E. Weldon, 44, Washington, is facing felony charges of second-degree domestic assault, third-degree assault against a special victim, resisting arrest and a misdemeanor charge of property damage.
Charges were filed in Franklin County Associate Circuit Court Friday, Nov. 17.
Police were called to the 1000 block of Caroline Drive just after 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, after a neighbor reported a fight in the upstairs apartment. An officer arrived on the scene and began talking to the woman in the apartment.
The officer reported Weldon began to shut the door and prevent the officer from speaking to the woman. The officer explained he was investigating a possible domestic assault case and told Weldon to let him continue talking to the woman, according to police.
The officer said Weldon shoved him. The force nearly caused the officer to fall down the stairs, he said in the report. The officer attempted to restrain Weldon, but was again shoved and again nearly fell down the stairs.
Eventually the officer said he was able to get Weldon restrained and placed under arrest. During the altercation, the officer reported his uniform was torn and the mount for his body camera was damaged.
After Weldon was restrained, the woman told police she had been choked. She said Weldon was on the phone and she asked him a question. He then began to choke her.
The officer reported the woman had red marks around her neck. The woman did not want to press charges, but the state of Missouri allows police to apply for charges in a domestic assault scenario.
