A man was arrested by the Washington police for allegedly stealing a car from Mercy Hospital’s parking lot Sunday.

Jerson Jericho, 21, was charged in the Franklin County Associate Circuit Court with stealing a motor vehicle Tuesday, Sept 4.

According to police, a 2003 Jeep Liberty was reported stolen from Mercy’s lot Sept. 2. The vehicle’s owner parked the Jeep and noticed it missing about an hour later. Police said the owner left the keys inside the vehicle.

Washington police allege Jericho had previously been at the hospital seeking a ride to St. Louis, police said. Brentwood police were asked to check that address, where they located Jericho along with the stolen vehicle.

Jericho’s address is listed as homeless. Police said he originally is from Arizona but now is living in Missouri.

Jericho was taken into custody and transported to Washington, according to police. He admitted to stealing the vehicle. He said he couldn’t find a ride, so he looked for a vehicle to take in the parking lot.

He is being held on a $15,000 cash-only bond.
