A Union man is facing sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child charges.
Brett James Pendleton, 48, was charged Tuesday in Franklin County Associate Circuit Court with one felony count of statutory sodomy or attempted statutory sodomy, deviate sexual intercourse, with a person less than 12 years old.
He also was charged with one felony count of first degree endangering the welfare of a child creating substantial risk.
A warrant for his arrest carries a $250,000 cash-only bond.
Update at 8:30 a.m:
According to the Washington police department, Pendleton rented a room at the American Inn in the 1700 block of Fifth Street Monday, Jan. 1, with an 8-year-old girl. That evening, the girl told her mother she has been hurt by Pendleton.
The girl told her mother Pendleton had made her engage in multiple sex acts and said he made her eat methamphetamine, smoke marijuana and cigarettes.
Pendleton was arrested Tuesday morning during a traffic stop and taken into custody on traffic charges.
According to police, Pendleton admitted to committing sexual acts and having sexual contact with the juvenile. Police said he also admitted to giving the girl methamphetamine by rolling it in toilet paper and feeding it to her.
