A Pacific woman arrested in St. Louis County in a stolen vehicle has been charged with the crime.
A Franklin County felony complaint was issued Monday, Nov. 13, charging Cynthia M. Vaughn, 48, with motor vehicle theft. She also was charged with misdemeanor domestic assault.
She was being held on a $10,000 cash-only bond.
According to the probable cause statement filed by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to the 2300 block of Hogan Road Friday, Nov. 10, after Vaughn threatened to break a back window to enter the home of a family member.
The victim said Vaughn ran into a wooded area when deputies arrived on the scene.
A short time later, deputies were dispatched to the 900 block of Center Avenue for the report of a stolen vehicle. A person matching Vaughn’s description was seen getting into the victim’s van, according to the probable cause statement.
Vaughn was stopped later that night in the stolen van by St. Louis County police in the area of Interstate 44 and Interstate 270.
According to the sheriff’s office, while Vaughn was being transported to the Franklin County Jail, she asked a deputy if her family knew she had stolen a car.
