A Labadie man was nabbed by authorities after he shattered a glass door of the Dollar General in Villa Ridge early Monday while staff was inside the store working after hours.
Kevin L. Stallings, 45, was charged Monday in Franklin County Associate Circuit Court with first-degree burglary and a misdemeanor of stealing. Prosecutors requested a $50,000 bond for his release.
The charges stem from a 1 a.m. incident at the store located on Highway AT south of Highway 100 where a Franklin County deputy responded to a burglary in progress.
Stallings allegedly used large rocks to shatter the front door of the business. He entered through the broken door and stole beer from the building before making a second trip into the business to steal other items, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s office.
There were three employees in the store doing inventory during the burglary. The clerks locked themselves in an office and called 911, authorities said.
When a deputy arrived on the scene he saw Stallings walking inside the store with merchandise in his hands. The deputy ordered him to drop the items and lie down on the ground. Another deputy arrived on scene and Stallings was taken into custody.
