A Union man was charged with felony stealing for allegedly swiping a phone charger from a Washington gas station.
Matthew R. Cahill, 33, was charged Wednesday, Jan. 31, with his fourth stealing offense in the last 10 years. The crime is a Class E felony and does not place a dollar amount on the item allegedly stolen.
Washington police said Fas-Trip gas station in the 1900 block of Washington Crossing reported a phone charger stolen Nov. 19, 2017. The charger was valued at $27.99.
Police said Cahill was caught on surveillance video and was recognized by officers. Washington police said they have had more than 20 interactions with Cahill.
Cahill was picked up by Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies in December after Washington police put out a wanted alert. He was interviewed by deputies and they said he admitted to stealing the charger.
The penalty for a Class E felony is a term not to exceed four years.
