A Union man is facing forgery charges for using counterfeit bills at Walmart.

Matthew J. Jones, 35, was recently charged in Franklin County Associate Circuit Court with felony forgery for an incident earlier this year.

According to the probable cause statement filed by Union police with the Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Jones used counterfeit money to purchase prepaid cards at Walmart in Union Jan. 7.

Police said during an interview with Jones, he said he obtained the counterfeit money while selling methamphetamine. Police said Jones admitted to knowing the money was fake.

Even after knowing the money wasn’t real, police said he still used it at Walmart.
