A Union man has been accused of assaulting a woman and threatening to kill her.

Michael P. Copeland, 43, was charged last week with third-degree domestic assault in Franklin County Associate Circuit Court. The charges stem from an incident Thursday, Aug. 30.

Copeland allegedly caused physical injury to a woman by “grabbing her by the arms holding” her on a bed, according to the affidavit filed in the case.

The victim told police Copeland placed his arm on her throat, according to the probable cause statement filed by Union police with the Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

The woman said Copeland told her he was going to kill her or kill himself.

Police said Copeland admitted to “wrestling” with the woman while holding her on the bed.

The victim had a small lump on her forehead she said was from the altercation.
