A Washington man was charged with two felonies this week for attempting to perform oral sex on a victim who was asleep when he broke into a home.
Jeffrey Mark, 29, Washington, was charged in Franklin County Associate Circuit Court with felony first-degree sodomy and burglary. He is being held in the Franklin County Jail on a $65,000 cash-only bond.
According to police, Mark entered a home near East Fifth Street Sunday, June 17, in the early hours of the morning. The door to the residence was unlocked.
An adult victim, who was sleeping inside the home, woke up to Mark conducting the sex act, Washington police said.
The victim awoke during the assault and physically confronted Mark, police said, forcing the suspect out of the home.
After the attack, the victim alerted the other adult in the home. According to police, children were also inside the home at the time. The victim called police and filed a police report, but Mark was not arrested that evening.
Mark was arrested Tuesday, June 26, and interviewed by police. Detective Betsey Schulze said when he was interviewed, Mark could not recall the evening but stated “if the victim said it happened, it happened.”
According to Case.net, Missouri’s court database, Mark does not have a history of violent criminal behavior.
