A Washington man was arrested Sunday evening, June 24, at 11 p.m, after allegedly beating a woman and threatening her with a large kitchen knife.

William S. Harris, 40, was charged in the Franklin County Associate Circuit Court with felony domestic assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

According to Washington Police, officers responded to an apartment on 10th Street after a woman called police and reported that Harris had been physically and verbally abusive to her after she woke him up from a nap.

Police said upon arrival at the apartment, clear signs of physical abuse were observed, including swelling on her arms. The victim also stated that Harris had bit, punched and choked her and flourished a large kitchen knife during the argument and threatened her with it.

Harris told officers he was intoxicated during the time of the altercation.

He was arrested on scene and is currently being held at the Franklin County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
