A safe stolen recently from Dairy Delight was found near Augusta Bottom Road Wednesday.

Washington police said hunters found the safe which had been opened with most of the contents removed.

The safe was stolen between Oct. 30 at 5:30 p.m. and Oct. 31 at 7:30 a.m. after someone pried open a door on the west side of the building.

There was about $2,000 taken from the safe. There was a check to Dairy Delight which helped authorities identify the safe’s owner.

Washington police also are investigating an attempted break-in at Unnerstall Tire Inc. located at 1 E. Fifth St.

Detective Sgt. Steve Sitzes said there was damage to the rear door of the business but no items were reported missing.
