Washington Police arrested a New Haven woman Monday for embezzling close to $200,000 from three local companies.
Tiffany Femmer, 34, is facing three counts of felony stealing after police discovered missing funds from SK Contractors, U.S. Environmental Solutions and SK Leasing.
Washington Police Detective Kevin Blackburn said the money was taken from 2010 to March 2014 when Femmer was an employee with SK Contractors in the accounts department.
Blackburn said all three businesses operate in the same building and Femmer had access to all three bank records.
Blackburn said SK Contractors contacted Washington Police in March after discrepancies were discovered by accountants.
Blackburn said Femmer initially confessed to stealing $32,000.
The investigation continued after the confession. Blackburn said he compared bank records with Femmer’s bank records.
He said he discovered she had written checks to herself and cashed them. He said she then made fraudulent entries into the company’s books.
Blackburn said the total amount stolen was nearly $200,000.
Blackburn said Femmer was arrested Monday in New Haven after being indicted by a grand jury.
