UPDATE: Bank Robber Apprehended Following Shootout

UPDATE: The Missouri Highway Patrol confirmed that a trooper and a man who robbed the First Bank at Dutzow Friday morning were shot in an exchange of gunfire near New Melle in St. Charles County.

The conditions of the trooper and the suspect were not released.

However, Warren County Sheriff Kevin Harrison said that the suspect’s bullet struck the trooper’s bulletproof vest and did not penetrate the vest. 

Harrison said the trooper was “shaken up” but was not seriously injured.  

PREVIOUS UPDATE: The Missouri Highway Patrol confirmed that a trooper and a man who robbed the First Bank at Dutzow Friday morning were wounded in a shootout near New Melle.

The conditions of the trooper and the suspect were not released.

The man robbed the bank shortly after 9 a.m. Friday and was last seen driving away on Highway 94 toward St. Charles County in a white four-door car.

The trooper, who was not identified, got in pursuit of the suspect's car and stopped it on Highway F near Highway D, according to reports. The officer and suspect exchanged gunfire and both were hit.

Other law enforcement officers converged on the scene and the suspect was taken into custody.

The robber, who was wearing glasses, a black mask and rubber gloves, entered the bank, displayed a handgun and demanded cash.
