Franklin County detectives are continuing their investigation of an incident on Sunday that involved a Robertsville man being shot in the stomach.

Sheriff Gary Toelke said someone dropped off the man, Justin Ridens, 27, at the Meramec Ambulance garage in Robertsville at about 9 a.m. on Sunday.

Ambulance personnel transported the man to Mercy Hospital St. Louis and contacted the sheriff’s office.

Toelke said detectives went to the hospital, but Ridens was in surgery and could not be questioned.

Ambulance personnel said Ridens had stated that he had shot himself but would not elaborate on where or how it happened.

The sheriff said the man’s condition was not known as of presstime on Tuesday.

Lt. Chuck Subke, chief of the detective bureau, said the man is expected to reover from the wound.

A detective was en route to the hospital Tuesday afternoon to question the man further about the incident.
