A Jefferson County man accused of setting several fires in 2009 that destroyed the former St. Clair Livestock Auction Barn off Highway 47 has been ordered to serve a federal prison sentence.

Gregory M. Cromer, 65, Cedar Hill, pleaded guilty earlier this year to three felony counts of damaging or destroying property by setting fires.

Cromer was sentenced Thursday to serve one year plus one day on each of the three counts. The jail time is to be served concurrently.

Franklin County Arson Investigator Jim Schuhmacher, one of the lead investigators in the case, was in court Thursday when Cromer was sentenced. He said the judge also ordered Cromer to pay restitution of $171,908 to Century Surety Insurance Co. and $56,320.86 to G.E. Capital.

Sentencing originally was scheduled for last Monday but was delayed because the judge was involved with a trial.
