A man and woman are in custody on drug charges after they were arrested this week following a brief police pursuit.

Members of the Franklin County Narcotics Enforcement Unit had information that the couple was in a car on the parking lot of Phoenix Center II about 5 p.m. Monday.

When officers arrived, the car sped away from South Point Road westbound on Highway 100, then turned onto Brookview Drive.

Detective Cpl. Scott Briggs said the driver, Jamie Howell, 33, then turned onto a dead-end driveway where the pursuit ended.

Howell and a passenger, Jason Voelkerding, 33, Washington, were taken into custody and booked on outstanding felony warrants related to a July 26, 2013, arrest.

Both are charged in the warrants with one count of distributing a controlled subtance and four counts of possession of methamphetamine, according to Briggs.

They also are charged with misdemeanor unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, according to reports.

Howell also is charged in a new complaint with misdemeanor possession of an imitation controlled substance.

That charge stems from Monday’s arrest.

A judge set a $5,000 cash-only bond on that charge.
