Residents in Gerald’s second ward will elect an alderman based on write-in votes in Tuesday’s municipal election.
No one signed up for the two-year open seat, so whoever gets the most write-in votes will be elected to the board, explained City Clerk Jane Hungler.
“If they don’t want that position, they will have to write a letter stating they do not want it, and someone will be appointed until the next election,” she said.
Ward 2 also has a one-year unexpired term to fill. Tina Baugess is running uncontested for that seat.
The city’s mayor, Hillary Ward, is not running for re-election. She was serving the unexpired term of Keith Wehmeyer, who stepped down with one year of office left.
Running for mayor are Ed Adams and Cary Parker.
Adams currently is serving as an alderman in another unexpired term.
In Ward 1, Stephen Grgurich, incumbent, will face Bradley G. Landwehr.
