There is still time for area girls and boys preparing for spring proms and dances to find free prom and dress attire at the Meramec Valley R-III School District prom dress boutique at Riverbend School, according to Jeannie Bandermann, who chairs the program.

“We’ve already had 30 young people come for prom attire for the Pacific High School prom last week and the Union High prom next week,” Bandermann said.

The program, open to anyone, originated at Pacific Presbyterian Church several years ago, but outgrew the space there. At Bandermann’s request, the school district found space for the program.

“We’re grateful to the school district for giving us this space to store the prom clothes and give youngsters a chance to look through them and try them on,” she said.

Some 300 prom dresses are available at no cost and are stored at Riverbend School, Room 210.  Shoes, purses, jewelry and men’s suits also are available.

The United Methodist Women’s group assists Banderman and co-chair Peggy Bolar in sorting the like-new dresses that are donated by a variety of groups and individuals.

Bandermann keeps track of the proms of area schools and promotes the free prom attire to students.

“St. Francis Borgia’s spring prom is scheduled for April 21 and Riverbend School has plans for a spring dance May 4,” she said. “We’re working with younger girls for the Riverbend dance.”
