Sales Taxes Down for Month, But Up for Year

Sales tax revenue in Franklin County were down for the month of May but remain higher for the year as a whole compared to last year.

This May, the county collected $1.6 million, and that is $26,534 less than what was collected in May of last year.

But sales taxes for the year are $176,323 ahead of last year.

For the year, the county has budgeted to collect $15.6 million in sales taxes.

Through May, the county has collected $6.5 million.

Last year, the county collected a total of $15.6 million in sales taxes.

Franklin County collects three half-cent sales taxes — capital improvements/road and bridge, law enforcement and general revenue.
