The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating a shooting Friday in the Clover Bottom area that involved a Franklin County deputy.

According to Sheriff Steve Pelton, a deputy was dispatched to a home in the 7,000 block of Highway YY at 6:20 p.m. for a report of a suicidal subject.

When the deputy arrived at the scene a man was in the driveway at the residence holding a long gun. A short time later, the deputy radioed dispatch stating shots were fired, Pelton said.

The man was transported from the scene with a gunshot wound. The deputy was not injured, Pelton said.

The sheriff's office contacted the Missouri State Highway Patrol to investigate the shooting, which is standard practice for a shooting that involves a deputy, according to Pelton.
