A Pacific man was killed Saturday, Oct. 6, after the car he was driving left Interstate 44, struck a tree and overturned.

Roger D. Young, 68, was driving a 2010 Dodge Caliber westbound on I-44 east of Antire Road in St. Louis County at 1 a.m. when the car left the right side of the interstate and struck a guardrail, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol preliminary report.

The vehicle went back onto I-44 and traveled off the left side of the road into a grassy median before going back onto the interstate, traveled across all lanes of traffic before traveling off the right side of the road and into a wooded area, the patrol said.

Then the front of the car struck a tree causing it to overturn.

Young was pronounced dead at the scene by Fenton Fire Protection District paramedics. He was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.

Young’s body was taken by Lonning Mortuary to the St. Louis County Medical Examiner’s Office.
