A New Haven area man was arrested Friday on a Franklin County Grand Jury indictment for child molestation and three counts of sodomy.
According to Sheriff Steve Pelton, in August 2017 the department received a report that Travis R. Canania, 40, sodomized a 13-year-old girl.
During the investigation the victim told authorities where the crime occurred. Her statement was corroborated by the use of a tracking device that had been installed on the victim’s phone by her parents, Pelton said.
Canania initially denied driving the victim to the area of the assault but after a second interview when he was told of the tracking device, he admitted to driving the victim to that location.
Authorities allege Canania also purchased alcohol for the victim which he initially denied but admitted to after video surveillance from a local gas station was seized showing him purchasing the alcohol with the victim present.
In February, the grand jury issued an indictment on Canania for third-degree child molestation and three counts of statutory sodomy. He is being held in the Franklin County Jail on a $100,000 cash-only bond. He was arrested by New Haven police.
