The man who is suspected in the recent thefts of multiple vehicles in Franklin and Jefferson counties is now in custody.

Steven D. Stotts Jr., 35, of Dittmer, was taken into custody Friday and he is being held without bond at the Jefferson County jail.

Multiple law enforcement agencies have been searching for Stotts who is suspected in the thefts of vehicles, firearms and other items valued at more than $100,000 in Franklin County, and additional crimes in Jefferson County.

The thefts occurred in August and September. 

Stotts initially was charged Aug. 22 in Franklin County Associate Circuit Court with stealing a motor vehicle and second-degree burglary, both felonies. Prosecutors requested a $25,000 bond which was reduced to $15,000 Aug. 24.

A warrant was issued for Stotts’ arrest Tuesday, Sept. 5, on additional felony charges of second-degree burglary and stealing. Prosecutors requested a $30,000 cash-only bond.
