Franklin County deputies arrested one suspect and are searching for a second man in connection with a burglary Thursday afternoon off Highway UU west of Union.
The man who was arrested was caught when the homeowners returned and saw him coming out of the garage. The second suspect fled in a vehicle.
The homeowners reported the burglary about 4:12 p.m. Union police responded to assist until deputies could arrive.
According to reports, authorities chased the second suspect who drove through a field and eluded officers.
The suspect arrested, a 46-year-old Steelville man, said he and the other man went to look at an old vehicle in a shed when the homeowner arrived and saw them.
Deputies located items taken from the garage in the Steeleville man’s vehicle.
At 5 p.m. Thursday, a second burglary was reported in the 1000 block of Krenning Road. Homeowners said someone had forced entry to their residence and items were missing. A witness saw a vehicle at the residence during the day.
The vehicle was similar to the vehicle driven by the subject taken in to custody on Highway UU, authorities said.
