Members of Washington Chapter 324 of the Korean War Veterans Association at their monthly meeting Thursday voted to donate $500 to Franklin County Honor Flight.

Many of the members of Chapter 324 have visited war memorials in Washington, D.C., on Honor Flights trips. The next one will be in the early fall.

Ken Fleer, Washington, was elected interim commander of Chapter 324. The election was necessary due to the death of Dave Anderson, who had been serving as commander.

Fleer had been adjutant. Elected as enterim adjutant was Emmett Becker, Labadie.

The members elected Stephen M. Tharp as an honorary member of Chapter 324. He is chief of Strategic Outreach, Public Affairs Office, U.S. Military, Republic of Korea. He was recommended by Fleer.

Ray Sovar, Villa Ridge, was elected chairman of fund-raising activities. Members of Chapter 324 plan to accept donations at several Washington retail stores in the near future.

Frank Wiliams, state commander, who lives in St. Charles County, addressed the members of the chapter. He emphasized that the Korean War Veterans Association does not ask for donations. “We accept donations,” he said.

Williams said the 18th annual reunion of KWVA members will be held Wednesday, Sept. 17, at Andres’ Banquet Center in South St. Louis County. It will be held from noon to 4 p.m. The $25 registration fee includes lunch in the banquet room. Information is available by calling Don Gutmann, commander, Missouri Chapter 1, at 314-739-7922.

Fleer reported on his recent trip to South Korea for war veterans. He related how grateful South Koreans are to veterans who served in the war.
