Franklin County sales tax collections were lower in February this year than last, according to the latest report.
In February, the county collected a total of $1.4 million in sales taxes compared to February of 2012 when $1.5 million was collected.
The county collected $75,076 less in sales taxes this February compared to last.
However, for the year as a whole, sales taxes are up compared to last.
In the first two months of 2013, the county has collected $2.6 million in sales taxes compared to the first two months of last year when $2.4 million was collected.
That is an increase of $190,617.
Franklin County collects three half-cent sales taxes — capital improvements/road and bridge, law enforcement and general revenue.
Sales tax collections lag a month behind, so January collections are actually from December and February’s collections are from January sales.
For the year, it is estimated that Franklin County will collect $15.6 million.
