Construction of a new bridge on Herbst Road got one step closer Tuesday as the Franklin County Commission approved the lowest of eight bids for the project.
Krupp Construction of Ballwin was awarded the $324,641 contract to put in the new bridge, which will go over an unnamed tributary of the Bourbeuse River, five miles east of Union.
Construction will start as soon as the weather breaks, Franklin County Highway Administrator Eva Gadcke said.
She expects it could start in April or May, and it will take about two months to complete.
It is being paid for with 80 percent federal funds and 20 percent county dollars, she said.
The old bridge will be removed and the new one put in its place.
The other bids for the project were:
Chester Bross Construction, Palmyra, $342,715; Don Schnieders Excavating Company Inc., Jefferson City, $368,654; KJ Unnerstall Construction Co., Washington, $362,436;
Kozeny-Wagner Inc., Arnold, $456,443; NB West Contracting Co., Inc., St. Louis, $342,588; Pace Construction Company, LLC, St. Louis, $384,022; and R.V. Wagner Inc., St. Louis, $328,448.
