The Gerald/Rosebud Fire Protection District battled a house fire at 33 E. Fourth St., Gerald, at 4:39 a.m. Wednesday.

The Union Fire Department provided mutual aid, as well as the Sullivan and Beaufort/Leslie districts.

According to Franklin County Fire Investigator Jim Schuhmacher, several 911 calls were placed to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, which dispatches for the district.

Schuhmacher said that when firefighters arrived, the entire west side of the two-story residence was fully involved.

The homeowner was not home at the time of the fire.

“There is so much damage that the fire will be classified as undetermined,” Schuhmacher said, adding that two stories fell into the floors below or the basement.

“There’s nothing to look at anymore,” he said.
