A St. Louis County man sustained serious injuries Monday when he was thrown from the motorcycle he was riding after colliding with a car.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said John E. Branch, 55, was transported by air ambulance to Mercy Hospital St. Louis following the 3 p.m. crash at 2485 Highway 50. Initial reports indicated the crash was near the Franklin/Gasconade County line.

Branch was riding a 1998 Suzuki motorcycle westbound on Highway 50 and attempted to overtake another westbound vehicle driven by Stephanie J. Monzyk, 24, Washington.

Branch was in the process of passing the car when Monzyk made a left turn. Branch’s motorcycle struck the side of the car, ejecting him.

Monzyk was not injured in the crash, according to the patrol report.
