Father Tim Bannes

A funeral Mass for Father Timothy L. Bannes will be celebrated Monday, Oct. 31, at 10 a.m. at Holy Infant Church in Ballwin.

Father Bannes, pastor of St. John the Baptist-Gildehaus Parish, Villa Ridge, died suddenly Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Father Bannes, 52, was ordained for the Archdiocese of St. Louis in 2007 by Cardinal Raymond L. Burke at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis.

His first assignment was as associate pastor of Holy Infant Parish in Ballwin. Father Bannes was appointed administrator of St. John the Baptist Parish in 2013 and pastor of the Villa Ridge parish the next year.

Born in St. Louis, he attended St. Matthias the Apostle School in South County and Christian Brothers College High School, then in Clayton.

Father Bannes earned a bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics from the University of Missouri-Rolla and did bookkeeping for Bannes Consulting Inc., his family’s construction company.

During that time he discerned a vocation to the priesthood and entered Kenrick-Glennon Seminary in 2001.

As a seminarian, he served his acolyte internship at Holy Infant Parish in Ballwin and later served at St. Angela Merici Parish in Florissant.

His transitional deacon assignment was at St. Joseph Parish in Cottleville.

In telling what led him to the priesthood, he said he had what he called a “reconversion” of his faith as a young adult. He began going to daily Mass and became active in his parish, joining prayer groups, studying Scripture.

“Finally after about three or four months my family and friends saw the dramatic changes in my life,” Father Bannes said. “One of my friends said, ‘Have you ever thought of the priesthood?’ I had not. But the seed was planted. I was 28 then. I thought, ‘I’m too old, not worthy.’ But there was a sense of great peace about it. It was nine years before I entered the seminary.”

A Rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Holy Infant for the repose of Father Bannes’ soul. The church is located at 627 Dennison Drive in Ballwin.

Parish Statement

The Parish released the following statement:

It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of our beloved pastor Father Tim Bannes from St. John the Baptist-Gildehaus,Villa Ridge.

Words cannot express our sorrow and loss and yet we remember that we are a people of hope.

We remember the hope that Father Bannes gave us with his joyful presence, his sense of humor, his kind, peaceful and compassionate heart and his deep faith in and love of our Lord Jesus Christ and our Mother Mary.

It is the tender love of Our Lady and the Resurrection of her son Jesus that gives us the hope that Father Tim is at peace and rest with our Eternal Father, and it is for this that we as a family pray.

We pray too for Father Tim’s family in this time of mourning and loss, that they may be comforted. Eternal rest grant unto him, Oh Lord, and the perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.
