A Franklin County jailer has been suspended pending a disciplinary hearing regarding his actions involving several jail inmates, Sheriff Gary Toelke said.

The deputy is accused of spraying pepper mace on a slice of pizza then offering the pizza to an inmate, Toelke said in a prepared statement.

The inmate shared the pizza with several inmates and all suffered mouth and stomach “discomfort,” the sheriff said.

Following a disciplinary hearing, an employee has five working days to appeal any decision. The final decision is up to the sheriff.
