A Franklin County couple has been charged in the abduction of a young girl last weekend, authorities said.
Franklin and Jefferson County authorities recovered the girl, unharmed, about 4:30 a.m. Monday at a home in the Lake Tekawitha development and she was returned to her paternal grandparents, who are from Kentucky.
Scott R. Jones, 45, is charged with felony kidnapping and Colleen Jones, 38, is charged with felony interfering with custody, Sheriff Gary Toelke said.
The felony charges were issued Monday afternoon, the sheriff said.
A judge set their bonds at $400,000 cash-only
The 2-year-old girl, Ellanah Spear, is Collen Jones’ maternal granddaughter, according to the sheriff’s office. Scott Jones is the child’s step-grandfather.
Toelke said Colleen Jones admitted during questioning that she did not intend to return the child who was brought to Franklin County last week by her paternal grandparents who have legal custody.
The custodial grandparents left Ellanah with Collen and Scott Jones Friday for a visit. The suspects were supposed to return the child Saturday but instead left the Villa Ridge area with her, according to reports.
The custodial grandparents contacted the sheriff’s office Sunday morning after they received word that the child’s mother received a text that the Joneses were not going to return the child and had left the Villa Ridge area.
Authorities mounted a search that ended with the child being found at the Jefferson County home.
