The Y Community Adult Literacy Program will hold a training session for potential volunteer literacy tutors this Monday, June 23, at Scenic Regional Library, Union. This free training will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is required by the YMCA for all tutors.
Attending the training session in no way commits a person to become a volunteer. It’s the first step for people who have an interest in helping others to see if adult literacy tutoring will be a good fit for them.
Presently, the Y Literacy Program has over 30 tutors working with adult students in the area. Volunteer tutors provide free one-to-one literacy tutoring for adults. The tutoring is done at the public libraries in Pacific, St. Clair, Union and Washington.
The goal is to provide this service at the Owensville Library in the near future.
The program is in need of volunteer tutors to teach students in Owensville, Pacific, St. Clair, Union, and Washington.
Franklin and Gasconade counties have adults who would like to improve their reading and speaking of English.
