A Franklin County man accused of stealing from a Washington business was charged Monday in a felony complaint.
Jeffrey A. Pierce II, 34, New Haven, is in the county jail on one count of felony stealing in connection with the theft of a towing dolly from a U-Haul business at 537 E. Fifth St.
Detective Sgt. Steve Sitzes said the owner, Steve Landing, reported that Pierce and a woman came to his business wanting to rent the dolly but he was closed and told them to come back later.
Landing called police Wednesday, June 25, after noticing that the towing dolly was missing from his lot.
On Saturday, June 28, a Washington police officer saw an SUV in the 1400 block of West Fifth Street with a towing dolly hauling a silver car. He stopped the vehicle and checked the serial number on the dolly and found it matched the one reported stolen, Sitzes said.
Pierce is being held on a $25,000 cash-only bond.
