A Franklin County man was arrested Sunday night following a report of an assault and property damage stemming from an argument.
The sheriff’s office said a 40-year-old Villa Ridge man was taken into custody shortly after the assault was reported at about 7 p.m.
The incident happened at a home in the 200 block of Arborview in the Villa Ridge area.
The suspect allegedly threw an ashtray at another man, striking the victim in the head, during an argument and physical altercation over loaning money to purchase heroin, the sheriff’s office said.
After the assault, the suspect left the residence and allegedly threw a brick through a window.
While being questioned by a deputy, the suspect called the victim’s cellphone which the deputy answered. According to the report, the suspect made threats over the phone, not knowing he was speaking to a deputy.
The suspect was arrested a short time later at his home in Red Barn Mobile Home Park.
He told deputies that he struck the man while defending himself.
Authorities did not release the man’s name pending a decision on issuing charges.
