Franklin County Heart Walk Is This Saturday
The annual Franklin County Heart Walk will take place this Saturday, March 9, at the Washington City Park Swine Pavilion.
The event begins at 9 a.m. with a warm-up led by Washington Physical Therapy. The opening ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m. with Lifestyle Change Awards and Fit Friendly Companies recognized.
The walk will get under way at 10 a.m.
The walk is sponsored nationally by Subway and Jenny Craig and locally by the Bank of Washington and Mercy. This is the fourth year the city of Washington will host the walk.
The Heart Walk will once again feature a one- and three-mile route around Lions Lake and through Downtown Washington.
The walk is open to the public, and there is no fee to participate. Both family teams and individual walkers are welcome.
In addition, Mercy will be at the Heart Walk offering heart health screenings, BMI/blood pressure/cholesterol/glucose/HDL screenings.
The organizers hope to see an increase this year over the last two years’ attendance of approximately 600. This year’s goal is to raise $70,000 for research and programs to help the American Heart Association reach its goal of reducing heart disease and stroke.
Registration is free and walker envelopes can be picked up at the Bank of Washington prior to the walk or Saturday morning at the walk.
